Larry Hoover is a former American gang leader and co-founder of the Gangster Disciples street gang in Chicago. At the ADX Florence prison in Florence, Colorado, Hoover is presently serving six life sentences. He received a sentence to the Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill, Illinois as punishment for his acts. He proceeded to lead the gathering from behind bars, unfazed by the occurrence. Following his passing in 1974, David Barksdale was elected mayor of the South Side of Chicago.

He not only took charge of the South Side drug trade, but also the gang. The gang started taking part in charitable activities and political demonstrations in the early 1990s, and he asserted that he had left his criminal history in the past.
